Hal: I do not come from a Church of Christ background. If anything, my denominational background only helped me arrive at the conclusions in this article by demonstrating to me what NOT to do. (Hence the article).

I might also point out that my bio on this article is incorrect. I am not "the pastor" of anything anymore. I have finally graduated to "functioning member of the Body of Christ" and I've been licensed and ordained by the Holy Spirit into the Priesthood of all Believers.

Keith you sound like you come from a Church of Christ background, very Campbellite. Nonetheless, you have some valid points. Of course we know that pastor is the word shepherd, and that the church of the city had many shepherds or pastors. But here again we are engaging in meaningless debate.

My point to you is that as you call for a return to a simple gospel message, not entangled with secular trappings, that the heart of the message is still Jesus, and becoming disciples of him rather than church methodology. Changing (or restoring) methodology and ecclesiology just creates more denominations, even if they call themselves the church of Christ.
