 | The Jesus We Don't Know (Yet) by Keith Giles Sometimes I feel as if you and I need to have that sort of moment in our lives where Jesus can be who He really is and not necessarily who we have made Him out to be. Let me assure you, Jesus is not who you think He is. He is more glorious, more powerful, more confusing, more fascinating, and more radically inclusive than you or I can possibly imagine. My parents and siblings picked me up from the airport, and we drove to church for the Christmas Eve service.
I had always hoped I’d be like Mary – a young woman who loved God, whose life took an extraordinary turn. My life had taken an extraordinary turn, but in the wrong direction. Instead of beating the odds to become pregnant with the Messiah, I’d beaten million-to-one odds and gotten breast cancer in my 20’s. And God was nowhere to be found. We never seem to get tired of hearing about Osama Bin Laden and how our government almost had him in its grasp. But while we are consumed with the hunt for Bin Laden and defeating Al-Qaeda, we are unwilling to admit that there is another leader who really paralyses many with fear. This leader wields more power, and has more followers, than Obama and Osama combined. His name is Jesus. He was born in poverty, in a stable. His birth was announced by angels who said, “Fear not! I bring you good tidings of great joy.” This message is so strong that it will answer all the ills that face our society. What comes after is part of what Paul the Apostle called "a profound mystery". This article won't attempt to explain any of this mystery for you, but if you want to be amazed at God's audacious love for you. Peek inside. My sincere prayer and hope is that every Christian Church in America would repent of these seven failures and return to a more Biblical, New Testament form of Christianity. More... | |
