I am an Anglican and very interested in the concepts of the Emerging Church, however, your website videos are completely inaccessible to me as I am deaf. I can`t help noting that this is standard in all of the emerging church and church growth organizations I have researched so far. This exclusion of the disabled is not limited to the deaf. I have noticed that religious organizations such as Natural Church Developement that publish books and materials in some truly obscure languages, do not have anything available in braille or even large print. had a bitter experience with the Contemplative Fire organization as they apparently are unaware hearing impaired people exist which makes me question their powers of observation given the aging membership of most churches today. WHY. Why do organizations like yours talk about missions and reaching out and then set up a wall to keep out the disabled. Apart from being discriminatory and actually breaking the law in many places such as the U.S. where captions are required in accordance with the American disability laws, it is also stupid from a marketing perspective. There is a reason why television commercials were captioned before television programs. It is because advertising agencies realized that there was a large untapped market. In the U.S. alone, there are approximately 30 million hearing impaired people. Why are you shutting us out.

Tickle is really off to compare the tensions about diet between the Jerusalem Church and the one at Antioch with the gay rights issue. The gay rights issue is already clearly addressed in Scripture.

Frankly, I think the hyphenated churches will just become another theologically liberal denomination or subsumed into liberal mainline denominations.

Saying that the Church is divided because the IRS recognizes 26,000+ different denominations is like say that the human race is divided because the phone book has thousands of different families listed.

Give me a break.

This reminds me of the charismatic move of a few years ago in which churches became hyphenated (i.e., full gospel Baptists, charismatic Catholics, etc.). Just shows that the church is growing and evolving and not content to just stay in little enclaves. It's a positive sign really that some are learning to reach out to one another and adopt that which they find helpful rather than totally writing each other off. After all, Jesus is coming back for ONE church.

so glad to hear these thoughts and see these resources...this is one of the most important movements, and I am so excited to experience and participate....

I often hear this compared to reformation, etc....I do wonder though if the great revivals might be another possible comparison....we don't know yet...but something very sacred and special is happening!!!

If the world economy is moving towards an 'experience based economy' then it would follow that the church will be morphing into this idea of emerging church. The emerging church seems to be very experience based (faith experienced through a collective narrative) and this will naturally fall in step with the way economy works. You can see how the church patterns itself in relation to the economy it exists for the last few hundred years.

Someone should gently tell Phyllis that Ray Anderson passed away earlier this year.

Glad you all covered this topic. I'm apart of the Quaker version of this (convergent Friends) and we're happy to see this happening in other churches as well.
